ARTHRITIS MADE EASY:

Many people have pain in their bones and joints hear some names such as ARTHRITIS, OSTEOARTHRITIS, TENDINITIS, BURSITIS, ETC. These terms are confusing and people want to know how to deal with them. Many may desperately try everything they see in commercials such as pills, ointments, pads, and so on. LET’S MAKE IT EASY:

Musculoskeletal means Bones that are held together by Muscles. Tendons are tough ropes at both ends of muscles that connect to the bone. Joints are where 2 bones are attached and Ligaments are ropes that hold these 2 bones together. It is like you use ropes to tie 2 pieces of wood together. Cartilage is a cushion between 2 bones to prevent friction of bones when they move, and bursa is another type of soft tissue that does the same job in a different way.

Now back to those strange words. ARTHRITIS is the medical term for the disease of the joint and this can involve one or more parts of the joint structure explained above. So, Tendon involvement is Tendinitis, Bursa involvement is Bursitis, and so on. A small percentage of ARTHRITIS is caused by Inflammatory diseases and can affect people of any age group. Examples are Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis arthritis.

However, majority of arthritis is what we call OSTEOARTHRITIS. Our joints like other body parts change as we age, and this causes pain. In the beginning, pain is on and off and not very bad but it becomes more constant and more severe and debilitating as we get older. The most common areas people get arthritis are KNEES, HIPS, LOWER BACK, SHOULDERS, NECK, ELBOWS, and HANDS. In some joints changes of different parts have adopted certain names such as SHOULDERS ROTATOR CUFF PAIN, TENNIS ELBOW, GTH BURSITIS OF HIPS, and so on.

ARE PAIN KILLERS AND CORTISONE OUR ONLY OPTIONS? WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?

The answer is simple: 1- Fix your arthritis.  2- Control your pain. Pain management refers to the treatment to relieve pain. Analgesics such as Advil, Tylenol, and Opioids may be used to treat the pain, while steroids drugs are used to reduce inflammation. Cortisone injection, epidural, or nerve blocks also work like band-aids to cover the pain. All these medications and injections, carry many side effects and have nothing to do with damaged parts.

THE GOOD NEWS IS: MEDICINE HAS CHANGED. Innovations in REGENERATIVE MEDICINE have brought about new technologies and procedures that can repair and restore damaged tissues. All of us will from time to time get injured like a cut or a bruise, and several weeks later, our body has healed. Scientists refer to this process as “the healing cascade” and it involves a large number of different cell types and chemicals. The first blood cells to arrive after tissue injury is called a platelet. For many years, doctors have been taught that the only function of a platelet is to stop bleeding. It turns out that platelets are much more versatile and important. After millions of platelets clump together and form a clot, they begin to release chemicals called growth factors and chemokines and these stimulate the tissue repair process.

WHAT IS PRP TREATMENT?

Plasma Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is a new area of medical practice that works by stimulating this natural healing process to restore the tissue that is damaged. If the PRP is placed precisely in the correct area and contains adequate numbers of cells and chemokines, it can heal many injuries that are causing chronic pain and disability. Platelets are one of the blood components, so the first thing the doctor will do is collect some of your blood. This blood is then processed to extract necessary cells and chemicals that are used for treatment.

WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT TREATMENT AT NIKALI CLINIC:

Three things are crucial for successful Regenerative treatment: 1- knowing exactly which part is damaged, 2- Using a processing system that yields a large number of cells and also high amount of chemicals, 3- putting the processed material accurately in the damaged tissue.

At NIKALI CLINIC, 1- We have state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and well-trained physicians who spend a lot of time and make accurate diagnoses before applying treatment. If the doctor is not sure what part of a joint is damaged, we will not schedule treatment. 2- While many usual processing systems yield only minimal cells and protein contents, at NIKALI CLINIC we use the most advanced technology to achieve the highest possible numbers of cells and concentration of proteins that significantly increase the success rate of the treatment. 3- At NIKALI CLINIC our specialist physicians perform procedures under image guidance to increase the accuracy to as high as possible. Studies have shown that treatments performed without image guidance have a success rate of 50% while with image guidance success rate is 90%.
